These three-day experiential challenges provide students in years 9 and 10 with the ability to generate creative and innovative concepts and solutions to: improve disability, aged and health care (in the Health challenge) and to measure changes in the environment (in the STEAM challenge).

Students are encouraged to apply an entrepreneurial mindset to solve the issue using STEAM principles—science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.

We would love your school to participate in this amazing, high quality challenge and herald your support in building our regions entrepreneurial STEAM champions of the future. Please contact Celeste Alcaraz c.alcaraz@griffith.edu.au to register your school’s interest.

About the challenge

The GLO Challenge in December will focus on improving disability, aged and health care with assistive technology in the region.

STEAM and entrepreneurship are two of the most focused fields in education. Facilitating this effectively requires an experiential approach with active involvement of a mix of disciplines. Our initiatives are guided by the Office of the Chief Scientist of Australia’s best practice in entrepreneurial education

Throughout the competition students work in teams of four under the expert guidance of mentors—teachers, academics, entrepreneurs and specialists from the region.

The Program

Day one introduces students to entrepreneurial thinking— identifying opportunities, building a value proposition and creating consumer personas.

Day two and three moves to the Collaboratory where students learn about human-centred design and prototype using 3D printers, robotics, virtual reality and coding technologies.

Day three explores branding and marketing ideas, concluding with student pitches.

Throughout the competition, students are guided by key presenters and mentors—teachers, academics, entrepreneurs and specialists.

INVITATION TO MENTOR

We are seeking mentors to share their expertise in this unique initiative and elevate the Logan and Redlands regions, along with the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Participating in the challenge will signify your organisation’s commitment to strengthening economic and social development in regional Australia.
