SparkPlug events provide opportunities for innovators to propose new solutions to Queensland Government decision makers.
Solutions should demonstrate the potential to deliver improved outcomes for Queenslanders or the Queensland Government.
Shortlisted finalists are invited to present directly to Queensland Government officers, providing the opportunity to promote their product or services and potentially opening the door for future opportunities.
Applications close at 2.00pm Australian Eastern Standard Time, Monday 2 December 2019.
Should you be successful, you will need to be available to present on Thursday 19 December 2019 in the Brisbane CBD.
EVENT SCOPE – IMPACT ECONOMY
Applications are being sought from startups and SMEs to present at the SparkPlug 3 event focusing on Impact Economy solutions.
For the purpose of this event, Impact Economy is defined as:
‘Startups and SMEs that infuse social benefits into their profit models to create a social or environmental impact. This includes businesses that are social enterprises and profit-for-purpose. These companies may have innovative service offerings or products that are of interest to the Queensland Government or Queenslanders.’
Applications will only be considered from startups and SMEs that are part of the Impact Economy sector, meaning they must be from a social enterprise or profit-for-purpose organisation.
What is a social enterprise?
A social enterprise is a purpose-led business with a majority of income derived from trade and 50% or more of profits reinvested towards achieving a social / environmental purpose.
What is a profit-for-purpose organisation?
An organisation that is for profit but exists primarily to solve a social and / or environmental problem. The social and / or environmental goals of a profit-for-purpose business must be central to its reason for being.
Profit-for-purpose organisations are distinct from those businesses that exist primarily for commercial purpose but incorporate ethical procedures, processes and supply chains.
The Queensland Government is seeking applications from organisations with innovative Impact Economy solutions which can create new value for Queenslanders. For example, a purpose-led social technology business that provides information, or facilitates interactions and connections, in order to tackle a particular social or environmental issue.
Applications should be prepared with a broad audience in mind and should consider how their solution could be of benefit to multiple Queensland Government departments or service areas, or to Queenslanders more broadly.
